For a second straight year, Spring Valley grabbed victory from the jaws of defeat against Huntington High.

After trailing 29-14 with just under 10 minutes left in the game, Spring Valley scored 19 unanswered points Friday and defeated the Highlanders 33-29.

The win improves the Timberwolves record to 2-0, while Huntington falls to 1-1.

Spring Valley did its damage through the air, throwing for more than 300 yards while struggling to run against a stingy Huntington defense.

Huntington used a 69 yard touchdown catch and 47 yard put return from Toquan Hayes to set up a 20-7 halftime lead.

Spring Valley cut the lead to 20-14 with 3:50 left in the 3rd quarter on a halfback pass from Elijah Wellman to Michael Hardin, but Huntington scored 9 unanswered points over the next three minutes to take a 15-point lead.

Spring Valley then took over, scoring on a 40 yard pass from Cam Roam to Sean Hayton with 8 minutes left, followed by 15 yard pass from Roam to Elijah Wellman to cut the HHS lead to 29-27.

On the ensuring kickoff, the Timberwolves recovered and scored the winning touchdown with just over a minute left on a 50 yard pass from Roam to Hardin to set the winning  33-29 score.

Spring Valley threw for over 300 yards in the game and Hayton and Hardin had 100 yard plus receiving nights.

Huntington Fullback Paden Christian rushed for 157 yards in a losing effort.

The Timberwolves return to action next Friday night at South Charleston, while Huntington goes on the road for the first time at Winfield, a game you can hear on Newstalk 800 WVHU, starting at 7:05 pm.
