Things weren't looking good for the Huntington Highlanders early in the 3rd quarter after Winfield turned a big kickoff return into a 5 yard David Gaydosz touchdown and a 17-6 lead, but momentum suddenly shifted to the Huntington side of field, as the Highlanders scored 28 unanswered points on the way to a 34-24 win over the Generals.

The win improves Huntington's record to 2-1, while the Generals fall to 1-2.

The Highlanders got off to a quick start as they scored midway through the 1st quarter on a 75 yard pass from Mark Shaver to Elijah King.

After that score, the Generals dominated the remainder of the 1st half with two second-quarter scores--a 35 yard Andy Ellington field goal and a 3 yard David Gaydosz run, setting the 10-6 halftime score in favor of Winfield.

After the 3rd quarter touchdown by Gaydosz, things changed for the positive for the struggling Highlanders as they scored four straight touchdows--a 54 yard Rashaun Page scoring run, eight and five yard touchdown runs by Paden Christian and a 48 yard scoring run by Rashaun Page. That made the score 34-17 Huntington.

Winfield scored a 4th quarter on a 28 yard pass from Toby Show to Ethan Shortridge, but it was too little, too late for the Generals.

Rashaun Page was the game's top rusher with 125 yards on 9 carries.  Huntington Quarterback Mark Shaver was 3-4 through the air for 87 yards, but Shaver was injured in the 1st half and didn't play in the second half as he was replaced by talented sophomore signal caller Jaylon Johnson.

Huntington is back home next Friday night for an important Moutain State Athletic Conference matchup with the Big Reds of Parkersburg.
