Last night my family and I watched the new patriotic film, "Doughboy". The WV-made film is a family-friendly movie that features newcomers Barrett Carnahan (Tory) and Emily Capehart (Jill). Tory is a self-centered, apathetic teenager whose family has moved from NY City to WV. The movie is shot on-location in Wheeling, WV where it was premiered last night. The film opens today at Marquee Cinemas in Huntington.
After being found guilty of vandalizing a patriotic statue, Tory is sentenced to community service at a local VA Hospital. There he meets Jill - an ultra-patriotic high school class-mate. He also has encounters with Joe (played by veteran film/TV star Terry Kiser from "Weekend at Bernie's) who tells Tory he "better stand for something or you'll fall for anything".
Jill, Joe, and a particular Veteran have a lasting affect on Tory. The film also features interviews with real-life Vets.
"Doughboy" is a movie you can watch with the whole family! There are lessons to learn, laughter, tears, and a special feeling of national pride we may forget every now and then. If you appreciate our military, you'll like this movie. If you don't appreciate our military, you will.
